{321} Paw-printed napkin

When our friend Anita lifted her Paloma from the napkin on the bar of Bloodhound in San Francisco, and carried it away, it left this paw-shaped print. Jen and I, still at the bar waiting to order our drinks, looked down at it for a brief while before Jen asked, “How do they do that?”

“They printed them, I’m sure,” I said.

“But it’s wet,” she said.

And thus began our short obsession of the night…how to figure out whether there were glasses with paw-prints on the bottom, or whether there was some other trick to the effect.

The bartender grabbed the napkin off the bar when he came to serve us, and tossed it as if it were nothing. We were never able to replicate the effect again, and, as it turned out, it was a complete fluke.

But if you ever go to a bar where they’ve designed glasses that leave a particular, bar-themed condensation print on the napkin, please call me and Jen. We will be happy to give you a 10 percent finders fee on the royalties we’re going to charge the place for stealing our idea.
