{314} Doolittle, originally uploaded by The Inadvertent Gardener.

I have wanted to see the Pixies live since I was in college, and was so disappointed to learn that they were going to be playing in Oakland, within walking distance of my apartment, on two nights when I would be on the East Coast. Circumstances were such that there was no way I could actually fly to any of their other tour stops, either, so I figured I’d just miss them again. But, at the last minute, they added a third date and I was able to get tickets. During the Oakland dates, the band was celebrating the 20th (!) anniversary of Doolittle, the album that includes “Here Comes Your Man” and “Monkey Gone to Heaven,” by playing the full album straight through, and then playing some other songs in addition. As I rode the AirBART shuttle from the Oakland Airport to BART, I looked up at a stoplight and noticed the street we were on…and it was the perfect intersection of my crazy day of travel and what was to come later that night.
