I attended a late-afternoon patio show at El Rio in San Francisco on Saturday to see The Minks, who were the middle act of three on an almost all-female bill. The final act, Clair, opened with a cover of AC/DC’s “Beatin’ Around The Bush,” complete with choreography and hot back-up dancers who strutted, wrestled each other (and lead singer Maria) on the ground, and generally tawdried it up. It was awesome, and the kind of thing that felt so San Francisco it would be hard to imagine it happening anywhere else.
