Somewhere back in the day, I only tried to make sure I’d seen all the nominees for Best Picture. But then Oscar Compulsive Disorder took over, and that involves printing out a list of all the nominees and scrambling, from the end of January to the end of February each year, to see as many as possible so I’m fully prepared for the Oscar broadcast. This year, I had seen all the movies in 14 of the 24 categories, and had seen all but one movie in four more of the categories. Of course, this has the net effect of never helping me in any Oscar pool — essentially, by knowing too much, I hamstring myself when it comes to making picks. But it’s fun. Every single year, it’s fun.
